Pierre-Yves Lajoie is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Computer and Software Engineering at Polytechnique Montréal. He is a robotics and artificial intelligence researcher specializing in robotic perception for single- and multi-agent systems. Before joining Polytechnique, he held research positions at MIT (2019), the Samsung AI Center (2023), and the University of Oxford (2024).
Research Interests
- Spatial AI & perception — computer vision and 3D scene understanding for robots operating in aerial, underground, indoor, and space environments.
- Collaborative SLAM — decentralized, communication-efficient, and outlier- resilient simultaneous localization and mapping for robotic teams (e.g. Swarm-SLAM, DOOR-SLAM).
- Distributed systems — coordination and resource-efficient computation across autonomous robot fleets.
He has received the Vanier Canada Graduate Scholarship and the Best Paper Award at IEEE ICC 2024.
