Jana Pavlasek is an Assistant Professor in the Computer and Software Engineering (Génie informatique et génie logiciel) department at Polytechnique Montréal, and an Associate Academic Member at Mila, the Quebec AI Institute. She holds a PhD from the Robotics Department at the University of Michigan, where she worked in the Laboratory for Progress with Prof. Chad Jenkins. She previously studied Electrical Engineering at McGill University and interned at NVIDIA's Robotics Lab.
Research Interests
- Uncertainty in robotics — representing uncertainty in perception systems and reasoning about it during planning.
- Probabilistic inference + machine learning — combining belief propagation, particle methods, and Bayesian inference with deep learning (e.g. differentiable nonparametric belief propagation).
- Robotics education — accessible, hands-on platforms and curricula for teaching robotics with real robots.
