Giovanni Beltrame is a Professor in the Computer and Software Engineering
Department at Polytechnique Montréal, where he directs the MIST Lab. His
research spans swarm robotics, embedded and reconfigurable computing, and
autonomous systems for extreme environments — from drone swarms and legged
robots to planetary analogue and subterranean missions.
Research Interests
- Swarm robotics — decentralized coordination, collective decision-making,
and the software ecosystems that make swarms deployable in the field.
- Field & space robotics — autonomy for caves, volcanic terrain, arctic
conditions, and simulated planetary surfaces, in collaboration with ESA,
the CSA, and NASA JPL.
- Embedded systems — fault-tolerant and self-adaptive architectures for
computing at the edge.
