Aryan Kargwal is a PhD student at Polytechnique Montréal, supervised by Prof. Pierre-Yves Lajoie. His research focuses on robot perception, planning, and formal verification for autonomous systems operating in dynamic environments.
Before beginning his PhD, Aryan completed a master’s degree in telecommunications at INRS. His thesis examined region-based segmentation of Arctic coastal imagery under difficult visual conditions. The work developed his background in computer vision, structured scene understanding, and perception under uncertainty.
Current Work
Aryan studies how robots can interpret changing environments, build structured spatial representations, generate plans, and verify safety requirements before acting.
His current research interests include open-set perception, uncertainty-aware planning, runtime verification, safe robot navigation, and multi-robot autonomy in environments shared with people.
